Google TV is currently an interface to the Android TV operating system.
Google TV was originally an operating system for smart TVs developed by Google, Intel, Sony, and Logitech that was released in 2010.
In 2014 it was replaced by Android TV, however in the last months of 2020 Google has decided to reuse the name “Google TV” for a modified interface of Android TV, in addition to being also used as a name for its mobile application previously called “Google Play Movies ”.
The Google TV interface is built into multi-brand televisions as well as the latest Chromecast released.
The Google TV interface will gradually replace the current interface of smart TVs with Android TV by the end of 2022.
The advantages of this interface are the same as those available for Android TV: large number of applications available (due to the popularity of Android on mobile devices), a minimalist and fully integrated interface, integration with Google services (Google Photos, Google Search, Google Assistant, etc.), the possibility of having several profiles for each user, easily sending content from Android and iOS devices, tablets and even from a computer connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
