Amazon Luna is a cloud gaming service from Amazon. Basically, it allows you to play streaming video games, without needing a powerful gaming console or a high-performance PC. Games run on remote servers and stream to your device, similar to how Netflix or Amazon Prime TV stream movies and series directly to your screen without needing a Blu Ray or DVD player.
Amazon Luna is similar to the missing Google Stadia or NVIDIA GeForce Now and Xbox Game Pass, that is, by paying a subscription you can play your video games with just a screen and a controller or directly from the screen of a tablet or smartphone.
To play Amazon Luna, the first thing you need to do is have an Amazon Prime account. If you don't have one yet, you can sign up for an Amazon Prime subscription here.
With your Amazon Prime subscription, "Prime Gaming" is included for free. This service allows you to enjoy a series of free games that rotate every month, similar to a subscription to PlayStation Plus or XBOX Game Pass. In addition, it allows you to link a Ubisoft account to participate in some PC games that you have on that service.
Currently, there are games available such as "Fortnite", "Control", "Batman: Arkham Knight", "WRC Generations", "Yakuza 6", several Sonic games, Lego and many more.
In addition to the games included in the Amazon Prime subscription, there is another higher tier that offers access to an even larger library, games at up to 1080p at 60 fps, the ability to stream directly to Twitch, and the option to play in groups with friends, all for a subscription of $9.99 per month.
If you plan to enjoy Luna on a TV, you will need to download the Luna app on your TV or FireStick. If you are going to play from devices such as an Android mobile phone, iPhone, iPad, Mac, PC or Chromebook, you only need the browser included in the system. You can play from Chrome, Edge and Safari.
Where can you play Amazon Luna? You can access Luna from Fire TV devices, that is, an Amazon TV or any brand TV with a Fire Stick connected via HDMI.
The service is also available on Amazon Fire tablets and from web browsers on PC, Mac, Chromebook, iPhone, iPad and Android. In addition, it can be accessed from Samsung televisions, by downloading the Luna application from the Samsung application store, and from LG televisions, also by downloading the application developed for LG's WebOS operating system available in its application store.
If you want to use your mobile phone as a controller to play on a television, for example, you need to download the “Luna Controller” application, available on Google Play for Android devices and in the Apple App Store for iOS devices.
If you prefer to use your PS4, XBOX, Stadia controller, a generic Bluetooth controller, or buy the controller developed by Amazon exclusively for this service, you will have to link it to the television or Fire Stick. Follow this tutorial to see how to do it step by step and with images. Once paired, you'll just need to turn it on to start playing.
